I took a small hiatus form posting in the last month as there really hasn't been much to post about! Three weeks ago the Scottish government implemented a Tier 4 lockdown in Glasgow, so all restaurants and non-essential shops have been closed. We also were not allowed to leave our council area, which meant we couldn't really go exploring or hiking at all. This led to the past few weeks being mostly school work and going on walks!
Module 3 was primarily about the digestive system. In the first week we learned about cranial digestive anatomy, as well as a little bit about radiography/ultrasound and equine management (our case study was a colicky horse. We focus a lot on dental anatomy and how to perform dental exams. In the second week of the module we moved on to the rest of the gastrointestinal tract, learning about the comparative anatomy between species, as well as GI motility and secretions. In the third week we moved on to nutrition and metabolism, which I loved as I have always found these topics to be very interesting. Unfortunately, we did not have any in person practicals during this module, and will not be having any until February.
Outside of doing schoolwork, we tried to make the best of being not being able to go anywhere, starting with having a whisky tasting!

It was really nice to try a good variety of different flavor profiles, though it is definitely a taste that takes some getting used to. My favorite was the Glenfiddich, which is a bit sweet with notes of pear.
We also had a small Friendsgiving, and did the best we could with UK ingredients to create the traditional thanksgiving dishes. We even had a football game on in the background (not live of course).

On the first day of December we decided to celebrate by going out and looking at the Christmas lights around the city. It was so fun to see everything lit up and full of cheer even though nothing was open.
We also got our first snow! It was just a light dusting, but it was so fun to see.
It was finally time to fly back home, which ended up being about a 20 hour travel day. I left my flat in Glasgow at 5am, flew to London Heathrow, and landed in San Francisco around 2pm. Though I still have had to do lectures the first week home, it's definitely nice being back (and seeing the sun!).
I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season!
